Landscape Photographer?

Now when it comes to taking pictures I am all about people. Landscapes, yes they are gorgeous but can never seem to capture them properly. I realize that I just will never be Ansel Adams, I just dont see things that way I guess. But on our vacation in Austria, I thought I would give Landscape photography another go...

Elli | Portraits & a Volcano?

When I heard that a volcano might be postponing my trip home to Texas, I was not a happy camper! Having finished school recently, my Mom is flying me home for a last hurrah before my life as a real adult starts. And I am not gonna let Eyjafjallajokull STOP ME! Btw, I feel so bad for all the news reporters who have to pronounce that beast of a word. Anyhow, I finally got a hold of continental yesterday and my flight is a go! I cant even explain how excited I am - mexican food, shopping, the beach, warm weather, and most importantly the ones I love, deep in the heart of Texas!

Alrighty enough with that and on to some pictures I took of my lovely friend Elli last week (I promise not everyone in Germany is named Elli, just two of my close friends happen to be). It rained and was really cold and windy but we managed to get in a couple of good shots anyway because shes a trooper :)

And because a dance party just makes the world a better place, we did that too :)

I think we will make it.

Michelle Moore's a super star senior and fashion photographer and also an awesome blogger. Her recent post about being yourself and self doubt really inspired this post. She is one of my favorite photographers and if she's doubting herself - well then maybe it is just a normal feeling in this business...
I feel like photography is such a competitive thing, not necessarily always in a bad way - but I for one always am looking at pictures and comparing, which is just stupid. I know its stupid and yet I do it anyway. You just have to be yourself and do your own thing, and that is what is going to make you stand out. I cant tell you how many people's blogs I have found who take pictures that look just like Jasmine Star's. Really beautiful pictures but at the end of the day people are drawn to Jasmine's skill AND her big personality. So for those of us who are lucky enough to have skill - let's take the time to figure out who we are and what we want our message to be. I think then we will make it.

Bad Blogger

When your Mom starts asking you "Sarah, are you gonna blog these pictures?" thats when you know you've been a bad blogger! BUT I have an excuse :) I had Fasching, my oral exam and a visit from my Mom and friend Rebecca all in the last 3 weeks. That didnt leave much time for blogging, so now its time to play catch up...
I have so much exciting news to tell you guys: I got a new camera as an early graduation present from my Mom and Step-Dad a NIKON D700 which is frickin amazing and to top it off I am finally getting my very own website! Am I a freak for having a blog before a website?? Oh well, I am finally making one and I want it to be perfect so its going to be a while longer but sometime next week it will be up and then i will post the web address for everyone to come and check it out!!

So here is a random picture overload from my goings on these past few weeks:

Fasching featuring me in all my dancing glory ;-)

Dunzo y'all!

So as of this past Wednesday, I turned in my Thesis!! wohooo - its about damn time! I swear if I would have had to read one more book about the sociological effects concerning family, I would have had to stab myself in the eye!
But now I am back to trying to blog fun and interesting things ;)
Alright, I took these shots in January on the most beautiful of days - now let me just say that I am not much of a landscape photographer but since I could not find a spur of the moment model at 11 in the morning, I made do with what I had...

Who knew snowflakes really do have the prettiest shapes :)

Now if only everyday was this beautiful... it sure would make the cold a little more tolerable! But thank goodness for my Emu's, I swear they have been attached to my feet since October. They may be ugly as sin but don't hate - they keep my feet dry and warm!

Elli, Steffen and snow in Houston?!

So something completely crazy is happening right now - it is snowing in Houston, that's right snowing! This is totally crazy because for one, it has happened maybe 5 times in my 24 years, but what makes it even more crazy is that it is NOT snowing here in Germany. I mean, come on!!! Germany basically equals Siberia in my world - temperature wise that is but not this year. Its been cold sure, but it has not snowed yet... I find it all very odd, prolly has something to do with the fact that I am itching to do a fun couples shoot in the snow with a sled and scarves and hot cocoa... whew and i digress.

So I have finally gotten around to editing and watermarking the shots from Elli and Steffen's shoot, yes my best friends boyfriend has the same name as my boyfriend, yes it confusing, and they are so fun! We found this ah-mazing red wall and they rocked it out like super models :) Elli was nervous that Steffen would be nervous, but not at all. He totally worked it! Prepare for lots of pictures :)

The lens flare is kinda crazy but I just love it :)

i miss fall

fall.

"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all."

- Stanley Horowitz

{i am aware that fall is technically still here, but the german cold has robbed the trees of their beautiful coats}
