Elli | Portraits & a Volcano?

When I heard that a volcano might be postponing my trip home to Texas, I was not a happy camper! Having finished school recently, my Mom is flying me home for a last hurrah before my life as a real adult starts. And I am not gonna let Eyjafjallajokull STOP ME! Btw, I feel so bad for all the news reporters who have to pronounce that beast of a word. Anyhow, I finally got a hold of continental yesterday and my flight is a go! I cant even explain how excited I am - mexican food, shopping, the beach, warm weather, and most importantly the ones I love, deep in the heart of Texas!

Alrighty enough with that and on to some pictures I took of my lovely friend Elli last week (I promise not everyone in Germany is named Elli, just two of my close friends happen to be). It rained and was really cold and windy but we managed to get in a couple of good shots anyway because shes a trooper :)

And because a dance party just makes the world a better place, we did that too :)

I think we will make it.

Michelle Moore's a super star senior and fashion photographer and also an awesome blogger. Her recent post about being yourself and self doubt really inspired this post. She is one of my favorite photographers and if she's doubting herself - well then maybe it is just a normal feeling in this business...
I feel like photography is such a competitive thing, not necessarily always in a bad way - but I for one always am looking at pictures and comparing, which is just stupid. I know its stupid and yet I do it anyway. You just have to be yourself and do your own thing, and that is what is going to make you stand out. I cant tell you how many people's blogs I have found who take pictures that look just like Jasmine Star's. Really beautiful pictures but at the end of the day people are drawn to Jasmine's skill AND her big personality. So for those of us who are lucky enough to have skill - let's take the time to figure out who we are and what we want our message to be. I think then we will make it.

Elli | Just Because

Finally catching up on the last of my pending pictures... So excited for spring & easter break, I have some awesome shoots planned! I have a product shoot later today for a small new liquor company that a friend just started, so thats exciting and I also ordered some new business cards last night. So Lots of posts to come.
These shots are from mid february when we still had lots of snow (as opposed to the unbelievable amounts of rain now). This is another "just because" shoot with Elli, we wanted to do something with a little bit of a rock and roll vibe, so I gathered some outfits and we hit the road. It was freezing but he had a blast :)

Winter Wonderland | Family Shoot

So those of you who have been following my blog for a while will be familiar with Elli's face by now since she is my go to model when I have a new idea that I want to try out. So when Elli asked if I would do a shoot with her and her brothers as a surprise for her Mom's 50th birthday - I was psyched! There was so much snow and I knew that I really wanted to do a fun and colorful winter themed shoot! The day of the shoot it was really overcast and it was snowing, not the best conditions because I was concerned all the pictures would be blurry because of the snow etc. BUT when we got to our location we just had fun. They even brought and old wooden sled... so here is the result of my very favorite family shoot to date - ENJOY :)

My favorite shot of the day :)

By the time the sun did decide to come out, everyone was freezing and wet but I still managed to grab a few shots.
